I was afraid this would happen

My wordpress backup from tumblr is stalled at about 1/3 of my stuff, having reached the limit for the free account. I was afraid this might happen. Now I have to decide whether to pony up the $8/month for the extra space I need. On the one hand, I totally get that "if you aren't paying for the service, you are the product", so if this is what it costs to host content, then I need to be prepared to pay for it if I don't want to be subjected to ads. On the other hand, money is tight, how much do I really need this? I have a big time investment, but does that justify a $ investment too? aauugghh.

I used the free space and stopped there (and locked the blog as I imported NSFW stuff, that's forbidden on Wordpress).
I'm sorry for the posts that will be lost (I'm sure that Tumblr will delete / make private many of my posts), I downloaded my whole blog with Tumblr Three and that's enough for me.

I maybe should try the download option, although my understanding is that the wordpress backup does capture "read more" stuff and the tumblr export doesnt.

welp, I went ahead and paid for a year, now I hope the importer knows to resume and complete the process.

What really ticked me off about this tumblr purge thing is that it caused me unnecessary anxiety too. WordPress didn’t work for me either since they were too overloaded for the back up process even to begin, so I ended up making a copy of my tumblr to archive.com.

I rather like dw’s comment threads like old style lj. It gives much more opportunities for a decent discussion without countless reblogs.

Regarding your meta—do you have it backed up on AO3?

I finally got an email from wordpress apologizing for the delay, and saying if I resume the import, the program will be able to tell where it left off (ie, not re import the ones it already has). So I might go ahead and do that at some point. BUT I have a guardian angel who was able to d/l my whole blog before the 17th, and is sending it to me on a thumb drive, yay! My own sherlockian memory stick! :D (not gonna call it AGRA though!!)
I didn't originate much meta myself, mostly just reblogged and maybe commented on others, so I've been urging them to do the backups, with at least some success. I feel weird about uploading anything to ao3 that I didn't write all of. (and I've never posted anything but comments on fics, so, yeah, another hurdle to get over). I really need to get back on #the new semester, and make sure I have up to date links for people who are doing archiving! Also my dream is to collate the links to the wonderful s3 (and even some s2!) metas that really got us going on the subtext and the cinematography and stuff, beyond the surface reading. I don't even know if that's possible anymore.
